A passion for sailing. Paul's fascination with sailing began in boyhood, when he began racing catamarans along the north coast of Puerto Rico. It has been a huge passion for him ever since! In the intervening decades, he has enjoyed being a part of all different aspects of the sailing world, including teaching, professional racing, boatbuilding, and cruising.

Exceptional teaching ability. With a natural knack for helping others learn, and many years of teaching experience at all levels (including at Steve Colgate’s Offshore Sailing School and as head coach of the University of Wisconsin Sailing Team), Paul is especially well qualified to work with those interested in building their own skills.

Successful racing career. On the racing side, Paul has been active and highly successful in a multitude of fleets, including dinghies, iceboats, catamarans, keelboats, sport-boats, and scows—from the Atlantic to the Pacific, Gulf of Mexico, Great Lakes, and Caribbean. He has a nice collection of blue ribbons, and plenty of interesting stories to share!

Boatbuilder, Cruiser, Certified USCG Captain. Somewhere amidst all these other activities, Paul found the time (7,000+ labor hours!) to build Solstice, his custom Cape George 31. In 2007, he sailed her to Puerto Rico, fulfilling a lifelong dream—and has since spent time cruising in the Caribbean. He is also a licensed and certified U.S. Coast Guard Captain.
